Lenox Crater Trail

TYPE - Day Hike

This was our second hike at the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument, the first hike being the Lava Flow Trail earlier in the day. The Lenox Crater Trail is a short one mile out and back hike up steep slopes covered with loose cinders and it is rated strenuous. It isn't really all that hard, although most of the hike is not under any tree cover so hiking this in the middle of the day in August might make it a bit more challenging.

The highlight of the hike is the wonderful view from the summit….the San Francisco Peaks. If you don't mind the crowds, this is a little gem of a hike if you are in the Flagstaff area.
